KING JESUS
Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. The chief priests of the Jews protested to pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews." Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

This is the blog to share your thoughts, reflections, questions
Hello everyone. By now, if you are on schedule, you should be reading John 5 today (thursday). Weiling and I have been reading John together at nite, but we missed it yesterday. So we have to do 2 chapters today. Anyone with ideas how we can improve this blog and our communication, please drop a comment.

I thought I'd get the ball rolling and share a couple of things that got me thinking as I read the chapters this week.
Jesus' teachings seemed to be very cryptic and perplexing in these chapters. I mean, if we were to put ourselves into the shoes of the immediate audience back then (e.g. Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the disciples and multitudes) it must not have been easy to understand what he was saying at the time. The full intent/meaning of many of His words were revealed only after His death but I wonder why He chose to speak in such indirect ways. Any thoughts?
Nonetheless, people still continued to follow Jesus and I suspect it was partly because of the reputation that he had for performing miracles. What was interesting to me was that it was those who personally responded to Christ and exercised their belief in Him e.g the Samaritan woman and the royal official in chapter 4, that had their lives changed. They had a personal testimony to share and were not just bystander-observers; they had a personal encounter with Christ and were not just curious onlookers. The phrase in chpt 4:50 struck me. It says "the man took Jesus at his word".
May we truly learn to take God at His word. As Peter says in 6:68 "To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
hey lon, maybe you can assign someone to share their reflection on the chapter each day, so there's a post every day. then we can add our comments chapter by chapter. just thinking that might be neater and help people to keep track of where they're supposed to be at.
